Tuesday, February 9, 2010, Pudong campus elementary school held the Chinese New Year Assembly at the auditorium. More than 300 students from kindergarten to fifth grade participated in this event. The performing categories were Singing and Dance, Drama and Instruments. With the beautiful lyric of Jasmine flowers played by fifth grade string group, the 2010 Chinese New Year Assembly was about to draw open.
The students invited parents and teachers to explore the fantastic world they created on the stage: Kindergarten and second grade lead us to look for “two old tigers” by their lovely children’s voice and movement. First grade introduced “A to Z” alphabets by demonstrating Chinese symbolized objects, such as an abacus, bicycles, chopsticks, pandas, and etc. Third grade acted out many likable animals living in a green forest on the stage. Their performance and beautiful song Small World appealed to all the people— please protect our Earth. Fourth grade performed a well-known Chinese fable, Calabash Brothers.
Their impressive performance and participation we truly believe it was a day to remember! It is a huge project. A lot of people have been working on it for more than three weeks. On behalf of ES Chinese department, I express our most sincere appreciation and gratitude, for all help and support in making “2010 Chinese New Year Assembly,” a successful one. Xin Nian Kuai Le!
On February 5, 2010, Kevin Xu, left, from my Grade 1 class, came in second in the Chinese Talent Show! He had practiced for a whole month and played so well. Seven school from around Shanghai participated. He was the youngest player from SAS Pudong and only one other school had someone from Grade 2. Fantastic job everyone. Amazing effort Kevin! —Jeanette Dixon. –Ellen XU, ES Chinese Department
