Unbridled energy announced the arrival of Pudong’s High School Musical, The Pirates Of Penzance  this November.

 The comic operetta,  Pirates, full of magnificent, twists and turns has survived in many guises for well over a century. Played to full houses SAS Pudong’s original interpretation received much acclaim from engaged audiences. Many  arriving fully  dressed as Pirates to  show solidarity and join in the fun!

  A noble Fredrick, is mistakenly apprenticed to the most useless, orphan-respecting pirates, whilst inappropriately  being chased by his elderly maid. Meanwhile, even   sillier police decide law and order must prevail and scheme to attack the Pirate band. Fredrick, on his 21st birthday, believes he is now free to ‘do his duty’, hopes to reject the evils of Piracy.  Alas, a sudden revelation, dashes his dream as his leap year birthday technically makes him only 5. Unexpectedly a timely manifestation of the Queen intervenes transforming  conflict into harmony.

Fueled by student chorography, ownership, musicianship, technical skill and direction, the musical’s unrestrained oomph delighted  transfixed audiences.

  This huge cast of  Pirates must individually be  recognized  for their significant contribution towards this  wonderful example of Ensemble at its finest .
